Vs. USD: Live Video and Live Stats

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's soccer team splits its two-match weekend with one game on the road and one game at home. On Friday, the Broncos return to Southern California to take on the Loyola Marymount Lions at 4 p.m. Then the men head back to Buck Shaw to host San Diego at 2 p.m. Live video with commentary by Aly Wagner '03 and EyeBronco reporter David Gentile will be available for the match against USD on SantaClaraBroncos.com.

"We are starting to head into conference play and are anxious about getting back on the field," said Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast. "We didn't have a great performance last time so it's important for us to be centered on the things we do right and focus on playing well in those moments."

Opening competition against West Coast Conference opponents this weekend, Rast looks to shake things up. "After last weekend's performance, I think we do need to look at some options and change up the lineup a little bit. We will see what Yoshi Chaffin and Carlos Delgadillo look like out of the gate right from the start. Both of them have trained well this week and look particularly sharp," Rast said. "At the same time, it's important to be consistent and allow the players to gain confidence."

The Broncos (4-3-1) look to bounce back from last Friday's loss in a Bay Area rivalry showdown against then-No. 15 Cal. Delgadillo leads the team with two goals and five points, appearing in all eight matches for the Broncos. A San Jose, Calif. native, the freshman posts a .429 shots on goal percentage and adds a fresh face to the Santa Clara attack. Another offensive force for the Broncos comes from sophomore midfielder Edson Cardona. He tallied two goals on the season while attempting nine shots. Steve Eneme tops out the Bronco attack, playing in all eight matches and tallying an even .500 shots on goal percentage with six on frame.

With Kendall McIntosh in the net and Benjamin Kucera and Valdemar Andersen holding down the back line, the Bronco defense has shut out opponents four times this year and limits them to a .053 shot percentage. McIntosh was named WCC Player of the Week on Sept. 15, and his save in the Cal match was featured as the No. 2 Top Play of the Week on the conference's Top Play Tuesday. He has 32 saves on the season with a .800 save percentage in his junior campaign.

Scouting the Lions

Santa Clara leads the all-time series 24-11-7 against Loyola Marymount with the first meeting happening in 1981. Last season, the Broncos fell twice to the Lions who then became the 2013 WCC champions.

"LMU is a good team who won the conference last year," Rast said. "They have some dangerous players so it will be a good test away from home for us. We look forward to it. This is how you want to test yourself; you want to compete against good teams. More importantly, we look forward to being out on the field and taking care of business."

The Lions are coming off of a 4-0 win over Grand Canyon at home last weekend. It was the first shutout of the season for goalkeeper Paul Blanchette. LMU has outscored opponents 12-8 and boasts a .419 shots on goal percentage. The Lions overall record stands at 3-3-2 for 2014.

Adrien Perez leads the team with three goals and eight points while attempting 21 shots this season. Sebastian De Rada also has eight points, tallying two goals and four assists.

Scouting the Toreros

Santa Clara leads the all-time record against San Diego 31-11-4, with the first match occurring in 1981 between the two teams. Last season, the Broncos topped the Toreros twice with a 1-0 win in overtime on Oct. 4 and a 2-0 win to close out the 2013 season on Nov. 17.

San Diego is coming off of a huge upset win over then-No. 1 UCLA last Friday. The Toreros topped the Bruins 1-0 with the game-winning goal coming in the 15th minute. USD's overall record stands at 3-2-4 with two other loses from ranked opponents. They have outscored opponents 14-10 and post a .496 shots on goal percentage with 60 put on frame for the year.

Connor Brandt leads the Toreros with three goals and eight points on the season while tallying 10 shots on goal. Torrey DeArmas has seven points for USD with three goals and one assist. Thomas Olsen has started eight out the nine matches for San Diego in goal and has 20 saves on the season with a .690 save percentage and three shutouts.
