Men's Soccer Edged by San Diego 2-1

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Playing a familiar opponent, Santa Clara men's soccer fell to San Diego by a final of 2-1. The loss puts the Broncos at 4-4-2 while the Toreros are 4-3-4.

Santa Clara returns to the field Sun., Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. vs. San Francisco.

Santa Clara and San Diego each attempted eight shots and shots on goal were 2-2. Steve Eneme led the way for the Bronco offense with a goal while Cesar Rocha had an assist. Max Ornstil led the team with three shots and one on goal.

San Diego scored first in the 21st minute off the head of Josh Cintas. Dave Musambi put a nice move on the defense and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to Cintas who headed the ball into the goal for the 1-0 Torero lead.

In the 25th minute San Diego's left back Parker Price took the ball down the field and past the Santa Clara defense. As he got into the box he finished to the near post to put San Diego up 2-0.

Santa Clara outshot San Diego 6-5 and shots on goal were 2-1 in favor of the Toreros in the first half. Ornstil led the way for the Bronco offense with three shots and one on goal.

Rocha had a nice scoring chance in the 68th minute when he controlled the ball just outside the box and took a few touches to get inside. His shot went just wide left and missed the far post to keep the score 2-0 San Diego.

The Broncos cut the deficit to one in the 72nd minute on a goal from Eneme. Rocha sent a pass into the box of Eneme who headed the ball into the left side of the goal and past the goalkeeper.
