Physical Exhibition Ends in Penalty Kicks, Tie at Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. – A large group of Santa Clara supporters came out to see the debut of the 2015 Broncos in an exhibition at Stanford on Saturday night.

After two scoreless halves and a combined 23 fouls, the match went into penalty kicks – which also ended tied at 4-4, thanks to a final diving save by SCU's All-WCC senior goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh

The first half was highlighted by the play of McIntosh as well. He made two terrific saves in the opening period and had three saves through 70 minutes before freshman Marcus Norris replaced him and made two more. SCU was out-shot by Stanford 14-5 during regular time.

SCU head coach and Bronco Hall-of-Famer Cameron Rast used the exhibition to feature 21 different players. Rast liked how his team competed and played – especially in the first 30 minutes. The Broncos had two late chances to score on shots on target by Edson Cardona and Max Ornstil.

Santa Clara will play No. 5 North Carolina Sunday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. (ET) on ESPN3. The match is part of SCU's season-opening road trip to play both UNC and Wake Forest., beginning with the Demon Deacons on Friday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m. (ET).

Stanford is picked to finish second in the Pac-12 and is ranked No. 8 nationally in the NSCAA Preseason Top 25 poll. The Cardinal is the only team in the country returning a pair of first team All-Americans in 2015 in junior forward Jordan Morris and senior captain Brandon Vincent.

The first chance to watch the Broncos at Stevens Stadium - Buck Shaw Field will be against Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7:30 p.m. (PT).
