SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off the 12th West Coast Conference title in program history, Santa Clara men's soccer plays at Cal State Fullerton Thursday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA tournament. This is the 20th trip to the tournament for the Broncos.

Santa Clara is one of 18 teams in the nation with both its men's and women's teams in the NCAA tournament. The women's team won its opening-round match Saturday and play Arizona Thursday.

The Santa Clara men (10-7-1, 5-1-1 WCC) finished the season on a six-match unbeaten streak (5-0-1) and clinched the conference title on the final day of the regular season with a 3-0 win vs. San Diego. The Broncos have played four teams (Wake Forest, North Carolina, Seattle, Cal Poly) during the regular season that made the tournament and a fifth, Stanford, in an exhibition game.

"We're excited to be back in the NCAA tournament. It's why we play," said Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast. "We want to be playing our best at the end of the year and we want that to turn into something meaningful for our players, which is to be on that national stage. Our guys worked very hard for that. Fullerton is a very good team and we're looking forward the matchup. We have everything to play for and that makes us a very dangerous team."

Santa Clara is 11-8-2 all-time vs. Fullerton with the first meeting coming in 1972. Earlier this year the Titans won at Stevens Stadium 2-1 in comeback fashion.

Fullerton (13-7-1, 6-3-1 Big West) won the Big West tournament with a 1-0 victory at Santa Barbara. They Titans have won four consecutive games and finished 8-3-0 at home.

"Fullerton is a good team that is super competitive," said Rast. "They compete for every moment in the game and snagged two late goals that undid us in our first matchup. It's a game we know is going to be a battle. They're playing very well and just won the Big West championship, going through some good teams to get there. We're going to have our hands full but we look forward to it. We're playing well too so Fullerton is going to be a great first round matchup."

Diego Sanchez leads Fullerton with eight goals and 19 points. He is tied for second with three assists. Brandon West and Robert Coronado lead the team with four assists each. West has scored three goals and Coronado has scored one. Ross McPhie has 11 points on four goals and three assists while Julian Okai has found the back of the net three times and added two helpers. Nine other Titans have at least one goal and seven have at least one assist.

David Elias has started all 21 games and allowed 17 goals for a 0.79 GAA. He has made 62 saves and has a .785 save percentage while picking up 10 shutouts.
