SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Coming off a convincing first-round win, Santa Clara men's soccer travels up the road to play No. 7 and eighth-seeded Stanford in the second round of the NCAA tournament Sunday at 5 p.m. The Broncos took down Cal State Fullerton 3-0 Thursday in the opening round for their first tournament win since 2007.

Santa Clara (11-7-1, 5-1-1 WCC) won the West Coast Conference and is on a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1). The team has allowed more than one goal just once in that stretch while outscoring opponents 14-4.

That hot streak enabled the Broncos to clinch an automatic NCAA berth on the final day of the regular season with a win over San Diego. The Santa Clara women's team also reached the second round of the NCAAs before being eliminated.

Santa Clara is one of four schools which won both a men's and women's NCAA first round game. The list includes Virginia, Rutgers, and Hofstra. In addition, five other schools won a first round women's game and had the men's team receive a bye to the second round. Clemson, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Stanford comprise that list.

The Broncos men's team looks to keep the momentum going following the first-round win.

"We knew the Fullerton game was going to be a really good challenge," said Santa Clara head coach Cameron Rast, who has taken the Broncos to five NCAA tournaments. "Both teams were playing well. We got off to a good start and had one cleared off the line early; that boded well for the rest of the game. Luis [Urias] scoring the opening goal and Carlos [Delgadillo] following that up put us in a great position to win the match. We managed it very well after that. They had to force their hand and press — we managed the ball and defended very well against a team that has been scoring goals. To get a win like that under the belt is a great lead-in to our match on Sunday."

First team All-WCC selection Carlos Delgadillo leads the team with 10 goals and 23 points. He is tied for second on the team with three assists. Edson Cardona is second on the team with four goals and Max Ornstil and Dylan Autran each have to goals. Six other Broncos have scored one goal apiece. Alfred Edmonds leads the Broncos with four assists and Autran is tied with Delgadillo for second with three helpers.

Kendall McIntosh has played every minute in net for Santa Clara and allowed 20 goals for a 1.04 GAA. He has made 65 saves for a .765 save percentage and collected six shutouts.

Santa Clara is 22-22-7 all-time vs. Stanford with the first meeting coming in 1967. Earlier this year the two teams battled to a scoreless draw in Palo Alto. The Broncos and the Cardinal have met three times in the NCAA tournament with the series record at 1-1-1 for both teams. The last meeting was 3-1 Stanford win in 2001. In 1999 Santa Clara advanced to the second round 6-5 on penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw.

Stanford (14-2-2, 7-1-2 Pac 12) won the Pac 12. After losing the opener at UC Santa Barbara 1-0, the Cardinal went 13-0-2 before falling at Washington 2-1 in the second to last game of the season. They bounced back with a 1-0 win vs. No. 23 Cal in the regular-season finale.

"Stanford is a very athletic team," said Rast. "They love to make it an athletic contest. They like to get the ball wide, swing balls into the box and press. It will be important for us to manage those moments and make sure we get a hold of the ball and move it quickly. We want to keep them at bay for stretches of the game so we can have our chances to attack and create the moments that we need to score."

Jordan Morris leads the team with eight goals and 18 points. Foster Langsdorf is second with six goals and has two assists for 14 points. Six other players have at least two goals each. Eric Verso is tied for No. 5 in the country with 11 assists and has added one goal. Corey Baird has eight helpers and two goals.

Andrew Epstein has allowed 12 goals for a 0.65 GAA. He has made 44 saves for a .786. The Stanford defense has nine shutouts on the year.
