SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer will play its first West Coast Conference home match of the season on Friday against Gonzaga. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT at Stevens Stadium.

The Broncos boast a 21-9-3 all-time record against the Bulldogs. In the 2015 matchup at Gonzaga, SCU won, 1-0.

"Any time you play at home you want to feel confident," head coach Cameron Rast said. "For us this season, even in the limited matches we've had at home, we've gotten good results, so that's important for us. Good results are mandatory for us in order to have a chance to earn the automatic berth (to the NCAA Tournament)."

THE BRONCOS

Santa Clara (5-5, 0-1 WCC) has the best goals against average in the West Coast Conference, allowing just 0.78 goals per game. Along with being tops in the league, that is the No. 32 mark in the nation. An experienced back line in front of sophomore goalkeeper Dakota Havlick allowed just eight goals in 10 matches and posted four shutouts.

"We're going to love being at home this weekend," Rast said. "We're going to love playing against two very good teams, teams that I think will definitely contend for the conference title as well. It'll be a very defining weekend and we look forward to that."

Scoring has not come easy for the Broncos, totaling seven goals in 10 games. Junior Carlos Delgadillo is tied for the leading scorer on the team with two goals, both of which were game-winners. Delgadillo has scored seven game-winners in his career and 16 goals overall. Junior Satoshi "Yoshi" Chaffin has pitched in five points (assists worth one, goals worth two) on the year, scoring and assisting on game-winning goals for the Broncos. Senior Edson Cardona and junior Jonathan Jarrett have also opened their scoring accounts this year.

THE BULLDOGS

Gonzaga (6-4-1, 0-1 WCC) has been streaky during the 2016 season. The Bulldogs started the year 5-0-1 and have lost four of the last five matches. Gonzaga has defeated two ranked foes on the year, then-No. 16 Seattle University and then-No. 20 American University.

Jakob Granlund and Austin Giftopoulos are tied for the most goals on the team with three each. Behind them, five student-athletes have each scored two gals. Ben White, along with his two goals, leads the team in assists as well with three. On the year, Gonzaga has scored 20 goals and 19 have been assisted.

Goalkeeper Ben Willis has played in all but 15 minutes of the 2016 season for Gonzaga. He has allowed 17 of their 18 goals, made 34 saves and posted two shutouts.

Gonzaga posted a 7-10-1 record in 2015.
