Men's Soccer Looks to Bounce Back Against Portland

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer will look to get its first West Coast Conference win of the season on Sunday against Portland. The match at Stevens Stadium will kickoff at 7 p.m. PT. 

The Broncos boast a 22-16-8 all-time record against the Pilots. In the 2015 matchup, SCU won in overtime at Stevens Stadium, 3-2.

THE BRONCOS

Santa Clara (5-6, 0-2 WCC) has the best goals against average in the West Coast Conference, allowing just 0.80 goals per game. Along with being tops in the league, that is a top-40 mark in the nation. An experienced back line in front of sophomore goalkeeper Dakota Havlick has allowed just nine goals in 11 matches and posted four shutouts.

Scoring has not come easy for the Broncos, totaling seven goals in 11 games. Junior Carlos Delgadillo is tied for the leading scorer on the team with two goals, both of which were game-winners. Delgadillo has scored seven game-winners in his career and 16 goals overall. Junior Satoshi "Yoshi" Chaffin has pitched in five points (assists worth one, goals worth two) on the year, scoring and assisting on game-winning goals for the Broncos. Senior Edson Cardona and junior Jonathan Jarrett have also opened their scoring accounts this year.

THE PILOTS

Portland (8-3-1, 2-0 WCC) enters Sunday's match on a four-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 15-5 over that stretch. The team has scored 28 goals on the year and 17 of them have been assisted.

Benji Michel leads the team with eight goals on the season and he is tied for the most assists on the squad with three. Eddie Sanchez has scored six goals and also dished out three assists for the Pilots.

Goalkeeper Paul Christensen has played all but 1:40 for the Pilots this year, allowing 15 goals, making 33 saves and posting two shutouts. The Pilots have a 1.22 goals against average.

Portland has made big strides from the 2015 season when they posted a 3-12-3 record overall.

Gates to Stevens Stadium, as well as its ticket office, are open one hour prior to the start of the match. 

Parking: For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive.
