SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer fell to Loyola Marymount, 2-0, on senior day. The Lions took the lead early in the first half at Stevens Stadium and then added an insurance goal in the 57th minute to secure the win.

"It's disappointing to send off the seniors this way," head coach Cameron Rast said. "But, it's our challenge to be better than this even by next game and to be better going forward. That's what we're looking for within the group, who can help us in the final game of the season and for next year."

Loyola Marymount (9-8, 3-3 WCC) took the early lead, scoring off a set piece at the 12:29 mark. Alvaro Madrigal played the ball into the box and Connor Johnson headed it in for the Lions.

"The second half didn't go nearly as well as we thought the first half did," Rast said. "The first half we actually felt pretty good about what we did, in terms of creating dangerous chances."

Senior Edson Cardona had the best chance of the first half for the Broncos (5-9-1, 0-5-1). His shot at the top of the box at the 28:32 mark went just wide of the goal. Senior Ryan Masch had a good attempt just a few minutes later but his shot missed high.

"We gave up a set piece goal and then we were chasing the game," Rast said. "I thought we did a good job of keeping our heads, working the game plan and creating some moments. When you have your go-to guys on the ball in those moments, that's what you play for. It's disappointing that we couldn't make more of it."

The Lions doubled their lead at the 57:00 mark when Lucky Puengrod collected a loose ball, carried the ball to the top of the box and fired a low shot to the far post.

The final match of the season is at San Diego on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. PT.
