SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Senior defender Valdemar Andersen of Santa Clara men's soccer was named to the All-West Coast Conference Preseason Team on Thursday, as announced by the conference office. The preseason team is voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
It is the second consecutive year Andersen has been on the All-WCC Preseason team. In each of his first three years with Santa Clara, he has also been on the postseason All-Conference list, highlighted by a First Team nod in 2015.
Andersen helps lead a backline for Santa Clara that finished third in the WCC in GAA last year and second two seasons ago. He started all 13 games he appeared in in 2016, missing seven games due to injury.
The Broncos play an exhibition Thursday at Sacramento State at 5 p.m. in their first action of the year. The regular season begins Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. vs. No. 6 Maryland at Stevens Stadium.
