SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In the first action of 2017, Santa Clara men's soccer dropped an exhibition game at Sacramento State 1-0 on Thursday evening.
The match was scoreless until the 81st minute when the Hornets finally broke through. Tyler Moss sent a ball to Trevor Jackson who shot far post and past Seamus Hudnut who played the second half in net.
The Broncos outshot Sacramento State 13-9 and held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal but the combination of goalkeepers Nick Kubler and James Del Curto was able to stop all seven balls put on frame by Santa Clara.
Dylan Caton, Javier Ruiz Duran, and Keanu Mendoza all attempted three shots for the Broncos. Mendoza and Ruiz Duran each put two of their shots on net while Caton had one on target.
NOTES
A total of 26 players on the Santa Clara roster saw minutes, with each logging at least 11. The Broncos are looking at different options as they prepare for the regular season.

"We started exactly how we wanted to and were able to get on top of Sac State while being in their half for the first 10 minutes. We created some great chances and this shows what we're capable of, but in the end, it's about scoring goals. We created enough chances and were the aggressor for most of the game but we have to get better at goal scoring. We'll be spending our time working on that."
