SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer lost a heartbreaker Thursday night at home to Tulsa 3-2 in double overtime.
The Golden Hurricane scored late in the first half but the Broncos answered with a pair of goals early in the second only to see their lead evaporate midway through the period. After a scoreless first overtime, Tulsa (1-1-1) scored less than a minute into the second extra period to capture the victory.
After the first extra session saw both teams hit the post but come up empty, Munashe Raranje scored the game-winner in the 101st minute. After getting the ball on the left side, Raranje took his defender into the box before making a move and finishing just inside the left post for his second score of the game.
Santa Clara (0-4) scored both of its goals in the span of four minutes. In the 54th, Andres Jimenez sent a low ball through the defense and to the feet of Miles Robinson who took a touch a finished far post. In the 58th, Robinson got the ball on the right side of the box and centered it to Carlos Delgadillo inside the six-yard box. Delgadillo one-timed his shot into the back of the net.
Thomas Wells got the score back to even in the 75th off a rebound. Henning Jolivet made a save but the ball bounced right back to Wells in the box and he was able to finish inside the right post.
Tulsa took its first lead in the 40th minute when Wells crossed a ball across the face of the goal and Raranje tapped it in with his left foot.
