Men’s Soccer Allows Two Late Goals And Lose, 2-1, At LMU
LOS ANGELES – Santa Clara men's soccer led for the majority of the match on a first half goal by Carlos Delgadillo but gave up two goals in the final 13 minutes and fell, 2-1, to Loyola Marymount on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field.

"We just didn't find a way to win.  For the first 70 minutes or so, we were solid but we were starting to struggle.  When you go with a group for that long, physically it's pushing the body to the extreme and we didn't play the correct ball to try to break pressure," explained Broncos head coach Cam Rast.

The Broncos (2-13-1, 2-3-1 WCC) dominated play in the first half, playing the majority of the match on the Lions (4-11-1, 2-4-0 WCC) side of the pitch while holding an 11-3 advantage on shots.

Delgadillo gave the Broncos its lead in the 33rd minute when he settled a Nate Shue cross inside the box and fired a shot from an angle beating the Lions goalkeeper Carl Rubschlager low.  For Delgadillo it was his sixth goal of the season to take the team lead from Valdemar Andersen.

While the Broncos used just two substitutes the entire match, the Lions utilized 11 to pressure Santa Clara.  The Lions subs accounted for both goals in the second half.

Loyola Marymount's first goal came in the 77th minute off a set piece when Rodrigo San Roman, who came in in the 67th minute, headed in a corner kick from Lucky Puengrod.

"We were taking on some pressure since they had to push to equalize," said Rast.  "The set pieces are so critical in our game as they can be such influencers for chances to score goals.  On that instance, we left someone unmarked and that equalizer took the wind out of our sails."

Just five minutes remaining in regulation, another substitute player, Kris Fourcand scored the game-winner, putting the ball past Bronco goalkeeper Dakota Havlick from close range off a short cross from Grant Sampson.

The Broncos will now set its sights on Senior Day in the season finale at Stevens Stadium on Saturday, Nov.11 at 7 p.m.
