SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Seven seniors will be donning the Santa Clara men's soccer uniform for the last time on Saturday when the Broncos host San Diego on Senior Day. The final match of the season will kick off at 7 p.m. with seniors Valdemar Andersen, Satoshi Chaffin, Carlos Delgadillo, Babacar Diallo, Jonathan Jarrett, Kyle Schumann and Martin Riedler being honored in a pre-match ceremony.

At halftime, Santa Clara Athletics will honor Paul Holocher, a former midfielder and a 2003 Santa Clara Athletics Hall of Fame inductee. Holocher is one of three Bronco greats to be recognized, along with David Palic and Terry Weekes, this season with a honor jersey.

The Broncos are currently in sixth place in the West Coast Conference with seven points with the Toreros sitting in fourth place, just a point ahead with eight. San Francisco is atop the league standings with 15 points.

SERIES HISTORY

Santa Clara is 32-14-4 all-time against San Diego with the first meeting coming in 1981. The last meeting between the two programs occurred in 2016 when the Toreros defeated the Broncos, 3-2 in overtime. The Broncos led on two different occasions, on goals by Carlos Delgadillo and Miles Robinson but lost two minutes into overtime.

THE BRONCOS (2-13-1, 2-3-1 WCC)

Santa Clara is coming off a 2-1 loss at Loyola Marymount last weekend after leading the majority of the match. Delgadillo put the Broncos up in the 33rd minute but Santa Clara gave up two goals in the final 13 minutes.

Delgadillo's goal was his sixth of the season to take the team lead that he shared with Andersen. It was the senior's 24th career goal, good for eighth all-time in the Broncos career goal list, one behind Anthony Chimienti (1998-01).

The Broncos have amassed 11 goals in six league matches, while allowing ten but have only allowed three goals in the last three league matches. Dakota Havlick has been in goal for each of the six conference matches.

Five of the ten nonconference opponents that Santa Clara faced are currently in the RPI top-40. They include: No.23 Maryland, No.18 SMU, No.28 Washington, No.33 Cal and No.4 Indiana. And three conference opponents are currently in the RPI top-40 with No.30 Pacific, No.32 Portland and Saturday's opponent San Diego at No.40.

THE TOREROS (8-5-3, 2-2-2 WCC)

San Diego head coach Seamus McFadden is retiring at the end of this season after 39 years as the head coach at San Diego. McFadden holds a career record of 385-284-70. Entering this season, he ranked eighth among active NCAA Division I coaches and 22nd overall for all-time career wins.

San Diego is coming off a 1-0 loss on its Senior Night against league leading San Francisco last weekend despite outshooting the Dons 14-10.

Offensively, Miguel Berry leads the team with 15 points on five goals and five assists, both team highs. Freddy Polzer is second on the team with 10 points on three goals and four assists. On the season, the Toreros have scored 22 goals in 16 matches, with eight goals scored in conference play.

Defensively, the Toreros have allowed 17 goals this season including eight in conference. The 17 goals allowed is the second fewest goals allowed in conference.

Thomas Olsen has played every minute for the Toreros and has a 1.00 goals-against average for the second best mark in WCC along with a .776 save percentage which leads the conference.

Parking: For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive.
