SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer released its 2018 spring schedule that includes five matches plus an alumni game.  Four of those matches will be played at Stevens Stadium with the alumni game taking place on May 12.   

 

"We can use the spring matches in a lot of valuable ways, to give more experience to the players, to create relationships with players on the field, to give players their chance to try to earn their way on and see where they are," said  Broncos head coach Cameron Rast.  "For the spring schedule, we're always looking to play quality teams and some different teams.

 

"We open up at San José State who we played in the preseason last year.  They are close by and it's a good rivalry game for us."

 

The next four matches will be at home, including the first two against Notre Dame de Namur and Chico State. 

 

"We also play a couple of Division II schools in Notre Dame de Namur and Chico State.  Those matches are good mental games for us.  Division II teams can be very good and very different because they can have older players as well as former pro players that still have eligibility.  So they can give you a different look and it'll be a good test because they'll try to prove themselves," said Rast.

 

The home matches will be capped off with games against UC Davis and the annual alumni game.  

 

"Last year, UC Davis had a really good team.  In last year's spring game, they took it to us," said Rast.  

 

The spring season wraps up May 18 as Santa Clara travels to play three-time defending National Champions, Stanford.  

 

"The Stanford game will be important in measuring ourselves. It's a good chance to find out what have we learned, how have we grown, and who has played well enough to earn their way on the field," said Rast.
