Men’s Soccer Hosts Sacramento State on Wednesday for Exhibition
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer hosts Sacramento State on Wednesday for an exhibition match beginning at 7:30 p.m. PT.  It is the first of two exhibition matches for the Broncos before beginning its regular season campaign at home against San Diego State on Aug. 24.

Season Preview  
 
Santa Clara, led by 17th year head coach Cam Rast, returns eights players who played in at least 11 matches last year including three West Coast Conference All-Freshman selections -Javier Ruiz Duran, Nate Shue and Terrell Smith - from a squad that finished fifth in the conference standings.  
 
The Broncos will field 17 returners in all and welcome 11 newcomers.  
 
Junior midfielder Miles Robinson along with Ruiz Duran and Shue each scored two goals last season, the most among returning players after it lost its top-three scorers Valdemar Andersen, Carlos Delgadillo and Yoshi Chaffin.  The graduating trio combined to score 14 goals.  
 
Robinson tallied four assists to lead the team in the category.  
 
Senior goalkeeper Dakota Havlick started eight games, including all conference contests, while allowing 14 goals for a 1.70 goals against average and recorded two clean sheets.  
 
THE HORNETS
 
Sacramento State is led by head coach Michael Linenberger who is starting his 30th year with the program, guiding the Hornets to a 8-9-2 overall record and a 4-4-2 mark in the Big West Conference, qualifying for the conference tournament for the second year in a row last season.  
 
The Hornets graduated five starters including both captains and field a squad with 17 underclassmen.  
 
Sacramento State already has an exhibition match under its belt, having beaten Bethesda University, 6-0, last Saturday.   Following its  match with Santa Clara, the Hornets will host Sonoma State over the weekend to conclude its exhibition season before hosting San José State in the regular season opener on Sept. 2.  
 
Senior midfielder Dominic Scotti scored four goals last season, tops among returning players, showing efficiency scoring them in just 412 minutes of play.  Sophomore forward Justin Bedig assisted on seven goals to lead the team. 
 
Tickets: Fans can purchase single game tickets starting at $9 with a season plan costing $56 per person.
 
The Broncos will host a total of eight matches at Stevens Stadium this season, beginning Aug. 15 against Sacramento State in an exhibition match.  Santa Clara will open its regular season against San Diego State on Aug. 24.   The regular season home slate concludes on Oct. 28 against Portland.

Parking: For weekday matches, the Leavey Center lot, located on Accolti Way off El Camino Real, is free beginning one hour prior to kickoff. Any other parking facility on campus will be subject to normal daily rates or restrictions, including the main structure, located adjacent to Stevens Stadium on Palm Drive.
