Men’s Soccer Travel East To Take On No. 25 Old Dominion on Friday
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer travels east to play No. 25 Old Dominion on Friday in its first road trip of the season.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT.  
 
The trip to Virginia is the first contest in the state since 1998 when the Broncos played in the National Semifinal match in Richmond, losing to eventual National Champions, Indiana, 4-0.  
 
The 2018 version of the Broncos opened its campaign last Friday at home with a 2-0 shutout win over San Diego State on two second-half goals by Andres Jimenez and Javier Ruiz Duran with Dakota Havlick recording the clean sheet.  
 
Santa Clara followed with a double overtime loss to UAB, 2-1, on a penalty kick goal in the 103rd minutes.

SERIES HISTORY
 
Santa Clara is 2-0 all-time against Old Dominion with the first meeting coming in 1996 at the Snickers/Rebel Classic in Las Vegas where the Broncos prevailed 3-0.  The two squads met again in 1998 in the Nike/tribe Classic in Williamsburg, Virginia that saw the Broncos come out on top, 4-0.

Preseason
Javier Ruiz Duran led the team with two goals in the preseason, scoring a goal in each of the two contests. 
Alan Camacho Soto got on the score sheet in each of the preseason contests, scoring a goal against Sacramento State and recording an assist against San José State.  
 
Game-Winners
Andres Jimenez has scored the game winner in the last two Broncos wins dating back to last season. In the 2018 season opener, the senior from Gilroy, California, scored the game winner on a penalty kick in the 64th minute.  In last season's final game against San Diego, Jimenez scored the game winner in the 85th minute to give the Broncos a 1-0 win.  
 
Clean Sheets
• Havlick has kept a clean sheet in three of the last five matches, dating back to last season.  The senior captain has seven career shutouts including one in the 2018 season opener. 
 
Impact Newcomers
• The freshmen trio of Aasen, Christensen and Carter all started the first two matches of the season on the backline along with sophomore Terrell Smith.
• Sophomore transfer Alan Camacho Soto and freshman Julian Bravo have come off the bench to play both matches this season. 
• Camacho Soto is the lone Bronco who has been on the scoring sheet in the first two matches – he recorded an assist in the season opener against San Diego State and scored a goal in the second match versus UAB.

• The Broncos have started the same lineup in the first two matches:  GK Havlick, Aasen, Smith, Christensen, Achramowicz, Jimenez, Ruiz Duran, Addai, Carter, Gillingham and Robinson.  
• Agosti, Bravo and Camacho Soto have come off the bench in both matches with Dylan Carrubba getting in the first match and Nate Shue in the second match.  
 
Miscellaneous
• With the season opening win against San Diego State, Broncos head coach Cam Rast improved his record in season openers to 9-8 including 4-4 at home.
• The season opening win was the first since 2014 when the Broncos beat Nebraska-Omaha, 3-2, in overtime.  It was also the last road-opening win.  
• Including the preseason, Ruiz Duran scored a goal in the first three matches this season, a streak that was broken in the last match against UAB.  
• Havlick, Christensen, Jimenez, Duran, Carter and Gillingham have all gone the distance (193 minutes) this season.  
 
'State' Schools
• The season opener against San Diego State was the third consecutive match the Broncos faced a "State" school.  Santa Clara's first two preseason matches came against Sacramento State and San José State.  
• The Broncos will face two more 'State' schools this season against Missouri State (Sept. 10) and Georgia State (Sept. 29).

THE MONARCHS
 
Old Dominion is led by Alan Dawson who is starting his 22nd year as the head coach of the Monarchs.  Dawson's 234 wins at ODU are the most in Old Dominion soccer history.  The Northern Ireland native has guided the Monarchs to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, all of which have come in the last 15 years.
 
ODU, a Conference-USA school is currently ranked No. 25 in the nation coming off a 13-6-2 season making it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Monarchs return nine key players from last season and picked to finish third in the conference.  Two returners were named preseason All-Conference, goalkeeper Mertcan Akar and midfielder Niko Kosterhalfen.  Akar was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch list.
 
ODU is 1-0-1 on the season, winning the season opener, 1-0, against Radford and playing to a 2-2 draw against Georgia Southern last weekend.
