SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After Saturday's road win at Georgia State, the Santa Clara men's soccer team stays on the road to face Xavier on Tuesday to conclude its nonconference portion of the schedule. Kick off is scheduled at 4 p.m. PT.
The Broncos (4-5-0) will look to extend its three-game winning streak against the Musketeers (3-2-4) who are undefeated at home this season (2-0-2) and are currently riding a 12-match home unbeaten streak.
On Saturday, the Broncos scored a pair of goals in the last nine minutes, including the game-winner by Alan Camacho Soto in the 89th minute to cap off the comeback for a 2-1 win. Santa Clara was the first team to score two goals against the stingy Panther defense all season, which had allowed only 0.62 goals per game entering the match.
During the current three match win streak, the Broncos have outscored the opponents 7-3 with five different players netting a goal. Goalkeeper Henning Jolivet has a 0.99 goals against average during the stretch making nine saves for a .750 save percentage since being inserted into the lineup against Cal Poly.
Tuesday's match in Cincinnati is the fourth match that Santa Clara will be playing in the eastern time zone having played Old Dominion and VCU earlier in the season and Georgia State last weekend.
THE MUSKETEERS
Xavier (3-2-4) is led by head coach Andy Fleming who is in his ninth year at the helm with a 95-50-28 career record. The Musketeers is coming off a 11-6-3 season finishing
runner-up in the BIG EAST Championships and return 21 letterwinners including eight starters from that squad.
In the Sept. 25 United Soccer Coaches poll, Xavier was ranked No. 22. Since then, the Musketeers suffered back-to-back losses on the road against Notre Dame and Providence to snap its seven match unbeaten streak to start the season.
Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Simen Hestines leads the team in goals (4), assists (5) and points (13) as nine different Mustekeers have found the back of the net.
Goalkeeper Zachary Nelson has a 1.12 goals against average while making 37 saves for a .787 save percentage while with three clean sheets to his credit.
SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday's match is only the second meeting between Santa Clara and Xavier with the first match coming in 1998 at the diador/USF Classic in San Francisco where the Broncos prevailed, 5-0.

Road Warriors
• Santa Clara plays 11 of its 17 regular season matches on the road this season. The Broncos are finishing up a stretch of playing seven of eight matches on the road including playing five consecutive road matches from Aug. 31 to Sept. 18. The Broncos have won the last two road matches and are 2-4 away from Stevens Stadium.
• Tuesday's match at Xavier is the fourth state outside of California the Broncos will be playing in (Virginia, Missouri, Georgia and Ohio).
• The Broncos play four 2017 NCAA Tournament teams on the road (Old Dominion, VCU, Pacific and San Francisco) and one at home (Cal). Santa Clara is 1-2 against those teams thus far, losing to Old Dominion and VCU before beating Cal.
Game-Winners
• Andres Jimenez had scored the game winner in three consecutive Bronco wins dating back to last season until the Cal match (Sept. 22) when an own goal in overtime by a Cal defender helped Santa Clara get a win.
• In the game against Cal Poly (Sept. 18), Jimenez's goal 41 seconds into the match turned out to be the game winner in the 2-0 win.
• In the 2018 season opener, Jimenez scored the game winner on a penalty kick in the 64th minute against San Diego State to help the Broncos to a 2-0 win.
• In last season's final game against San Diego, Jimenez scored the game winner in the 85th minute to give the Broncos a 1-0 win.
Quick Goal
• Andres Jimenez scored 41 seconds into the match against Cal Poly for the second quickest goal scored in Bronco history. Back on Sept. 17, 1991, Alberto Cruz scored the quickest goal, just 29 seconds into the match against CS Sacramento.
Clean Sheets
• The Bronco goalkeepers have recorded a clean sheet in four of the last 12 matches, dating back to last season.
• Dakota Havlick is credited with three of the shutouts including one this season in the season opener against San Diego State and seven in his career.
• Redshirt sophomore Henning Jolivet earned his first win as a Bronco on Sept. 18, shutting out Cal Poly.
Impact Newcomers
• The freshmen tandem of Emil Christensen and Sakari Carter have started in all matches this season on the backline.
• Another freshman, Martin Aasen, started the first seven matches of the season in the backline alongside Christensen and Carter before missing the match against Cal. Aasen returned to the lineup in the last match against Georgia State.

Santa Clara lost the first three overtime matches: 2-1 at home against UAB (Aug. 26) in the 103rd minute of double overtime; 1-0 in the 97th minute of overtime at VCU (Sept. 2) and 3-2 in the 108th minutes of double overtime at Missouri State (Sept. 10) before winning the last one against Cal (Sept. 22), 3-2, in the 93rd minute.
Miscellaneous
• With the season opening win against San Diego State, Broncos head coach Cam Rast improved his record in season openers to 9-8 including 4-4 at home.
• The season opening win was the first since 2014 when the Broncos beat Nebraska-Omaha, 3-2, in overtime. It was also the last road-opening win.
• Carter and Gillingham have all gone the distance playing every minute of the first seven contests (849:13 minutes) this season.
• The match against Georgia State was the first meeting between the two schools. It was the third time this season that the Broncos faced an opponent for the first time with Old Dominion and Missouri State being the other two.
'State' Schools
• The season opener against San Diego State was the third consecutive match the Broncos faced a "State" school. Santa Clara's first two preseason matches came against Sacramento State and San José State.
• The Broncos faced Missouri State on Sept. 10 and faced the last of the 'State' schools in Georgia State (Sept. 29).
