Men’s Soccer Hosts LMU in Conference Opener on Sunday
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Riding a four-match unbeaten streak, Santa Clara men's soccer hosts Loyola Marymount in the Dick's Sporting Goods West Coast Conference opener on Sunday at Stevens Stadium.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT.  
 
The Broncos (4-5-1), who played seven of its last eight matches on the road, will look to carry its strong finish in nonconference play to the seven-match WCC season.  Santa Clara will play three of the seven conference matches at home.
 
In the nonconference finale against Xavier on Tuesday, the Broncos came back from a two goal deficit to score three straight goals before settling for a 3-3 draw in double overtime.  A week prior to the match, the Musketeers were ranked in all three national polls topping out at No. 18 in the Top Drawer Soccer's rankings.
 
During the current four-match unbeaten streak, the Broncos have outscored the opponents 10-6 with five different players netting a goal.  Goalkeeper Henning Jolivet has a 1.41 goals against average during the stretch making 11 saves for a .647 save percentage since being inserted into the lineup against Cal Poly. 
 
The Broncos are 2-1 at home this season and the Lions are 1-3 on the road.  
 
THE LIONS
 
LMU, led by head coach Paul Krumpe who is in his 21st year at the helm, finished the nonconference schedule with a 3-7 record.  However, the Lions have won two of the last three matches including its lone road win of the season in the high altitudes at New Mexico, 2-1.  
 
The Lions have scored 10 goals and given up 20 with sophomore forward Kris Fourcand leading the way with three goals and seven points on the season.  
 
Goalkeeper Paul Lewis has started in nine of the 10 matches allowing 17 goals for a 1.89 goals against average while making 42 saves ( .712 save percentage) to post a 3-6 record.  
 
SERIES HISTORY
 
Santa Clara is 25-13-9 all-time against LMU with the first meeting coming in 1981.  The two schools last met in 2017 when the Broncos lost, 2-1, on the road giving up a pair of goals in the final 13 minutes.

Road Warriors
• Santa Clara plays 11 of its 17 regular season matches on the road this season.  The Broncos are coming off a stretch of playing seven of eight matches on the road including playing five consecutive road matches from Aug. 31 to Sept. 18.  The Broncos unbeaten in the last three road matches and are 2-4-1 away from Stevens Stadium.  
• Last Tuesday's match at Xavier was the fourth state outside of California the Broncos have played in (Virginia, Missouri, Georgia and Ohio).
• The Broncos play four 2017 NCAA Tournament teams on the road (Old Dominion, VCU, Pacific and San Francisco) and one at home (Cal).  Santa Clara is 1-2 against those teams thus far, losing to Old Dominion and VCU before beating Cal.  
 
Game-Winners
Andres Jimenez had scored the game winner in three consecutive Bronco wins dating back to last season until the Cal match (Sept. 22) when an own goal in overtime by a Cal defender helped Santa Clara get a win.    
• In the game against Cal Poly (Sept. 18), Jimenez's goal 41 seconds into the match turned out to be the game winner in the 2-0 win.  
• In the 2018 season opener, Jimenez scored the game winner on a penalty kick in the 64th minute against San Diego State to help the Broncos to a 2-0 win.   
• In last season's final game against San Diego, Jimenez scored the game winner in the 85th minute to give the Broncos a 1-0 win.  
 
Quick Goal
Andres Jimenez scored 41 seconds into the match against Cal Poly for the second quickest goal scored in Bronco history.  Back on Sept. 17, 1991, Alberto Cruz scored the quickest goal, just 29 seconds into the match against CS Sacramento.  
 
Clean Sheets
• The Bronco goalkeepers have recorded a clean sheet in four of the last 12 matches, dating back to last season.  
Dakota Havlick is credited with three of the shutouts including one this season in the season opener against San Diego State and seven in his career.  
• Redshirt sophomore Henning Jolivet earned his first win as a Bronco on Sept. 18, shutting out Cal Poly.
  
Impact Newcomers
• The freshmen tandem of Emil Christensen and Sakari Carter have started in all matches this season on the backline.  
• Another freshman, Martin Aasen, started the first seven matches of the season in the backline alongside Christensen and Carter before missing the match against Cal.  Aasen returned to the lineup against Georgia State.
• Sophomore transfer Alan Camacho Soto (from Temple) has played in all matches this season.  
• Camacho Soto is tied for the team lead in goals (3) and second in assists (3).  He scored a pair of goals including the game-winner at Georgia State in the Broncos 2-1 win. 
• Carter and fellow freshman Julian Bravo each scored their first goal as a Bronco in the Sept.10 double overtime loss against Missouri State.  
Eduardo Lopez Perez made his Bronco debut against ODU in the third match of the season and has played in each match since then including starting the last four.  Lopez Perez scored his first goal against Cal to tie the match up at 2-2 to send it to overtime. Lopez Perez notched his second goal against Xavier.  
 • Defender Alejandro Perez logged 69 minutes in his Bronco debut against Xavier (Oct. 2).  The freshman from Roseville, California came in as a substitute in the 41st minute and played the rest of the match.  
 
Lineup
• Eight players have played in all games this season: Andres Jimenez, Javier Ruiz Duran, Miles Robinson, Alan Camacho Soto, Sakari Carter, Alex Achramowicz, Emil Christensen and Brandon Gillingham.  
• Five have started in all games: Jimenez, Ruiz Duran, Carter, Christensen and Gillingham.
• Against ODU, six players came in as a substitute, the most this season.  
• The Broncos substituted a season-low three players in the wins against Cal Poly and Georgia State.  
• In all 10 matches this season, the Broncos have started at least six underclassmen in each match.  
Henning Jolivet has started in net the last four matches after Dakota Havlick started the first six matches to start the season.  
 
Overtime Matches
• The Broncos are 1-3-1 in overtime matches this season.  Santa Clara lost the first three overtime matches: 2-1 at home against UAB (Aug. 26) in the 103rd minute of double overtime; 1-0 in the 97th minute of overtime at VCU (Sept. 2) and 3-2 in the 108th minutes of double overtime at Missouri State (Sept. 10) before winning against Cal (Sept. 22), 3-2, in the 93rd minute.  The Broncos played to a 3-3 draw against Xavier (Oct. 2). 
 
Miscellaneous
 
• Carter and Gillingham have all gone the distance playing every minute of the first ten contests (959:13 minutes) this season.  
• The Broncos have faced three opponents for the first time in its history this season: Old Dominion (Aug. 31), Missouri State (Sept. 10) and Georgia State (Sept. 29).  
 
'State' Schools
• The season opener against San Diego State was the third consecutive match the Broncos faced a "State" school.  Santa Clara's first two preseason matches came against Sacramento State and San José State.  
• The Broncos faced Missouri State on Sept. 10 and faced the last of the 'State' schools in Georgia State (Sept. 29).
