SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer look to bounce back against Pacific on Saturday after a heartbreaking loss in the West Coast Conference opener to LMU last weekend.
Santa Clara (4-6-1, 0-1) who entered WCC play on a four match unbeaten streak, squandered a 1-0 lead giving up two goals in the final two minutes at home against LMU.
The Broncos will face a stiff challenge on the road against the preseason conference favorite Pacific Tigers (6-3-2, 0-1), who are coming off a 4-0 loss against No. 9 Saint Mary's on Sunday.
The Broncos are 2-4-1 on the road this season and the Tigers are 4-2-1 at home in Knoles Field.
THE TIGERS
Pacific is led by head coach Ryan Jorden who is in his fifth year at the helm after the program was brought back from a 29-year hiatus. Jorden has compiled a 31-41-7 record, leading the Tigers to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances the last two seasons.
The Tigers are 6-3-2 this season with a marquee win over three-time defending National Champions Stanford at The Farm on Sept. 20.
Three Tigers were named to the preseason All-WCC team: Tariq Branche, Camden Riley and Wouter Verstraaten.
SERIES HISTORY
Santa Clara is 15-4-4 all-time against Pacific with the first meeting coming in 1967. The two schools last met in 2017 when the Broncos lost, 4-3, in overtime at home.

Road Warriors
• Santa Clara plays 11 of its 17 regular season matches on the road this season.
• Against Pacific, the Broncos will be playing its eighth road contest in the last 10 matches including playing five consecutive road matches from Aug. 31 to Sept. 18.
• The Broncos are unbeaten in the last three road matches and are 2-4-1 away from Stevens Stadium.
• The last road match at Xavier was the fourth state outside of California the Broncos have played in (Virginia, Missouri, Georgia and Ohio).
• The Broncos play four 2017 NCAA Tournament teams on the road (Old Dominion, VCU, Pacific and San Francisco) and one at home (Cal). Santa Clara is 1-2 against those teams thus far, losing to Old Dominion and VCU before beating Cal.
Game-Winners
• Andres Jimenez had scored the game winner in three consecutive Bronco wins dating back to last season until the Cal match (Sept. 22) when an own goal in overtime by a Cal defender helped Santa Clara get a win.
• In the game against Cal Poly (Sept. 18), Jimenez's goal 41 seconds into the match turned out to be the game winner in the 2-0 win.
• In the 2018 season opener, Jimenez scored the game winner on a penalty kick in the 64th minute against San Diego State to help the Broncos to a 2-0 win.
• In last season's final game against San Diego, Jimenez scored the game winner in the 85th minute to give the Broncos a 1-0 win.
Quick Goal
• Andres Jimenez scored 41 seconds into the match against Cal Poly for the second quickest goal scored in Bronco history. Back on Sept. 17, 1991, Alberto Cruz scored the quickest goal, just 29 seconds into the match against CS Sacramento.
Impact Newcomers
• Freshman Sakari Carter has started in all matches this season on the backline.
• Freshmen Emil Christensen and Martin Aasen have started in all but one match this season on the backline. Christensen missed the match against LMU (Oct. 7) and Aasen missed the Cal match (Sept. 22).
• Sophomore transfer Alan Camacho Soto (from Temple) has played in all matches this season.
• Camacho Soto is tied for the team lead in goals (3) and second in assists (3). He scored a pair of goals including the game-winner at Georgia State (Sept. 29) in the Broncos 2-1 win.
• Carter and fellow freshman Julian Bravo each scored their first goal as a Bronco in the Sept.10 double overtime loss against Missouri State.
• Eduardo Lopez Perez made his Bronco debut against ODU in the third match of the season and has played in each match since then including starting the last six. Lopez Perez scored his first goal against Cal to tie the match up at 2-2 to send it to overtime. Lopez Perez notched his second goal against Xavier.
• Defender Alejandro Perez logged 69 minutes in his Bronco debut against Xavier (Oct. 2). The freshman from Roseville, California came in as a substitute in the 41st minute and played the rest of the match. Perez made his first Bronco start in the next match against LMU (Oct. 7) playing all 90 minutes.

• Seven players have played in all games this season: Andres Jimenez, Javier Ruiz Duran, Miles Robinson, Alan Camacho Soto, Sakari Carter, Alex Achramowicz, and Brandon Gillingham.
• Four have started in all games: Jimenez, Ruiz Duran, Carter, and Gillingham.
• Against ODU, six players came in as a substitute, the most this season.
• The Broncos substituted a season-low three players in the games against Cal Poly, Georgia State and LMU.

Overtime Matches
• The Broncos are 1-3-1 in overtime matches this season. Santa Clara lost the first three overtime matches: 2-1 at home against UAB (Aug. 26) in the 103rd minute of double overtime; 1-0 in the 97th minute of overtime at VCU (Sept. 2) and 3-2 in the 108th minutes of double overtime at Missouri State (Sept. 10) before winning against Cal (Sept. 22), 3-2, in the 93rd minute. The Broncos played to a 3-3 draw against Xavier (Oct. 2).
Close Calls
• Against UAB (Aug. 26), the Broncos lost, 2-1, three minutes into double overtime on a penalty kick.
• The Broncos lost, 1-0, in overtime against VCU (Sept. 2).
• Against Missouri State (Sept. 10), the Broncos missed a penalty kick with three seconds remaining in the first overtime, before losing, 3-2, in double overtime.
• Santa Clara lost to UC Davis (Sept. 15), 3-1, after its penalty kick was kick saved by the Aggie goalkeeper in the 79th minute, which would have tied the match.
• With two minutes remaining in double overtime against Xavier (Oct. 2), two Bronco shots hit the post, and settled for a 3-3 draw.
• In the WCC opener against LMU (Oct. 7), leading 1-0, the Broncos gave up two goals in the final two minutes including the game-winner with 29 seconds to lose, 2-1.
Miscellaneous
• Carter and Gillingham have all gone the distance playing every minute of the first ten contests (1049:13 minutes) this season.
• The Broncos have faced three opponents for the first time in its history this season: Old Dominion (Aug. 31), Missouri State (Sept. 10) and Georgia State (Sept. 29).
'State' Schools
• The season opener against San Diego State was the third consecutive match the Broncos faced a "State" school. Santa Clara's first two preseason matches came against Sacramento State and San José State.
• The Broncos faced Missouri State on Sept. 10 and faced the last of the 'State' schools in Georgia State (Sept. 29).
