Men’s Soccer - Five Broncos Garner All-Conference Honors
West Coast Conference Release

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Five Santa Clara men's soccer players were recognized with All-West Coast Conference honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Three Broncos were named second team All-WCC - senior Brandon Gillingham, junior Miles Robinson, and sophomore Javier Ruiz Duran - while senior Andres Jimenez was recognized as an honorable mention.  Eduardo Lopez Perez was named to the All-Freshman team.

A two-year captain on the squad, Gillingham played every minute (1,630) of all 17 matches this season, primarily at the defensive midfield position where he tallied two assists.

Robinson played in all 17 matches, starting in nine.  With his tremendous pace from the attacking wing position, the junior from Woodbridge, Va. scored four goals with three assists including scoring the game-winner against Gonzaga coming in as a substitute.

Midfielder Javier Ruiz Duran followed up his WCC All-Freshman campaign last season to lead the Broncos in goals (6), assists (5), points (17), shots (40), and shots on goal (18) this year.  In conference play, Ruiz Duran scored three goals and recorded an assist.  The crafty left-footed sophomore from Barcelona, Spain logged 1,579 minutes while starting all 17 matches.

The three second-team selections are the most for the Broncos since placing four on the list in 2000 (Anthony Chimienti, Brett Davis, Mike Goehring, Rusty Johnson).

Jimenez earned honorable mention honors after scoring five goals on the season, good for second most on the team, while starting in all 17 matches.  Jimenez tied with Ruiz Duran with three goals in conference play.  His other goals were game-winners in nonconference matches, against San Diego State (Aug. 24) in the season opener and against Cal Poly (Sept. 18).  The goal against Cal Poly came just 41 seconds into the match for the second quickest goal in Bronco history.

Freshman Lopez Perez played in 15 matches, starting in 12 including all conference matches while scoring a pair of goals.

Conference champion Saint Mary's and runner-up Pacific took home all the major awards.  Pacific's Camden Riley was named the WCC Player of the Year with teammate Wouter Verstraaten winning the WCC Defensive Player of the Year.  Remi Prieur of Saint Mary's was named WCC Goalkeeper of the Year and fellow Gael Sebastian Schacht was named Freshman of the Year.  Saint Mary's head coach Adam Cooper, who led the Gaels to an undefeated regular season was named Coach of the Year.
