SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's soccer team kicked off its 2019 preseason training under sunny skies at Bellomy Field on Wednesday.

The first of two training sessions on the day started with an 8 a.m. fitness test on the field turf where the temperature climbed into the low-80s.

Led by head coach Cam Rast, who begins his 18th year at the helm, the Broncos return 24 players and welcome five newcomers.

Among the returners are three All-West Coast Conference honorees – second team selections Javier Ruiz Duran and Miles Robinson along with all-freshman selection Eduardo Lopez Perez.

Despite the graduation of a pair of all-conference selections in Brandon Gillingham and Andres Jimenez, the Broncos return 80 percent of its goals from a year ago led by Ruiz Duran's six goals.

The Broncos will practice six more days, including several two-a-day sessions, until its preseason match against UC Davis on August 21 at Stevens Stadium.
