Men’s Soccer Edged, 1-0, by Utah Valley on Thursday
LAS VEGAS - Santa Clara men's soccer was inches away from drawing level in the waning seconds but Javier Ruiz Duran's shot sailed just over the crossbar with the Utah Valley goalkeeper out of position, to lose 1-0, in the desert evening at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

As the game clock reached near the full 90-minute mark, Santa Clara (2-3-1) quickly played the ball in from the left side to an open Alan Camacho Soto.  The Bronco forward delivered a cross inside the box catching the Wolverine goalkeeper Joseph Wheelwright scrambling to cover the open net but Ruiz Duran's shot fluttered above the goal.

The shot marked the 16th of the match as the Broncos outshot the Wolverines 16-9 including a 5-2 advantage on shots on goal.

Utah Valley (3-2-1) broke the scoreless deadlock in the 87th minute when Blake Frischknecht got a fortuitous flick from Alec Felix off a long free kick by Wheelwright, slipped behind the Bronco defense, and slotted the ball from a tight angle to beat goalkeeper Henning Jolivet to the far post.

Prior to the goal, Santa Clara had a couple of chances to go up but Wheelwright turned away four shots during a 15 minute span including a diving save of Alejandro Barajas' blast in the second half.
