Men's Soccer: Emil Christensen Named WCC Player of the Week
WCC Release

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer was recognized by the West Coast Conference on Monday when Emil Christensen was named the WCC Men's Soccer Player of the Week.

The sophomore central defender spearheaded the Santa Clara defense which posted back-to-back shutout wins on the road at Lipscomb (in Nashville, Tenn.) on Friday night and at Evansville (Evansville, Ind.) on Sunday afternoon by the same 2-0 score in both matches.

"Emil is our co-captain, leader and has marshaled the backline comprised of two other sophomores and a freshman," said Broncos head coach Cam Rast.  "He has stepped up his game and did a great job to help lead the team to back-to-back shutouts on the road against two teams that had single matches in the week leading up to our games."

The Nr. Snede, Denmark native played the full 90 minutes in both matches.  Both Lipscomb and Evansville last played back on Saturday, Sept 22 prior to the match against Santa Clara.

Against Lipscomb, which advanced to the Sweet 16 in last season's NCAA Tournament, the Broncos limited the Bisons to just one shot on goal (out of 12 shots).

And against Evansville, Santa Clara held the Purple Aces to just four shots total, playing in mid-90 degree weather.

It is the first such honor for Christensen.

The Broncos next play on Oct. 5 at CSUN.
