Men’s Soccer and Gonzaga Draw, 1-1

SPOKANE, Wash. - Santa Clara men's soccer and Gonzaga played to a 1-1 draw in double overtime on a chilly Saturday night West Coast Conference matchup at Luger Field.

Javier Ruiz Duran opened the scoring in the 29th minute on a combination feed from Nate Shue and Sam Agosti who entered the game minutes earlier to put Santa Clara (8-6-2, 2-3-1) up 1-0.  The goal was Ruiz Duran's team-leading fourth of the season.

From the right side of the 18, Agosti passed it diagonally back towards Shue who one timed it to a cutting Ruiz Duran inside the box.   From six yards out, the Bronco junior calmly slotted the ball with his left foot under the sliding goalkeeper Carter Auth who had come off his line.

Santa Clara appeared to be in control of the match until Gonzaga (3-10-2, 2-3-1) leveled it in the 63rd minute when Frankie Ljucovic's shot found the back of the net to knot it at 1-all.  Quinn Liebmann delivered an accurate pass from the far left side that went past the outstretched feet of two Bronco defenders before finding Ljucovic in front of the goal beating Broncos goalkeeper Guillem Badenes Mecho.

The score remained deadlocked at 1-all through two overtime periods as neither team generated any particularly dangerous chances.

For the match, the Broncos outshot the Zags, 10-8 including a 5 to 2 advantage on frame.

Ruiz Duran had a game-high four shots with Demetrius Kigeya leading the Zags in that category with three.
