SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's tennis team announced the signing of 6-0 right-hander Kevin McQuaid to a national letter of intent, head coach George Husack announced during the late signing period that began last Wednesday.

McQuaid will join the Bronco program next fall and is the second of four players expected to sign. The late signing period runs through the spring. The Broncos signed Bobby Rasmussen of Littleton, Colo., during the early signing period in November.

"Kevin is one of the most passionate and inspirational people I have ever met," Husack said. "He reminds me a lot of former Bronco Scott "Mad Dog" Watters '00, as both lead by example day in and day out."

A native of Huntington Beach, and currently a senior at Los Alamitos High School, McQuaid is undefeated so far this season. He has played in the top singles position all four years at Los Alamitos, and led his team to the state championship as a sophomore. He was named the team MVP as a junior and is a three-time Pepsi Sunset League Player of the Year. He was ranked 15th nationally by the USTA for Boys 16, and is among the top 50 Seniors in the Boys 18 listing. He is currently ranked third in Boys 18 for Southern California.

"There's no stopping this guy and he loves a team environment," Husack added. "When combined with his national tournament experience and success, Kevin's impact to our program, athletic department and Santa Clara University will prove invaluable. We're very excited to have Kevin become a Bronco."
