FRESNO, Calif. - Junior Erich Chen won the consolation singles final as the Santa Clara University men's tennis team closed out play at the Wathen/Hancock Bulldog Classic, hosted this weekend by Fresno State University at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
The Broncos added to their opening fall tournament of the season as Chen and doubles partner Michael Bruggemann advanced to the finals of the doubles bracket. The Bronco tandem upset the No. 1 seed in the semifinals for a chance at the title. It was Bruggemann's second consecutive appearance in the doubles championship match at this event.
Santa Clara will return to the courts next week, visiting Stockton for the Tiger Fall Classic that will be held Friday through Sunday.
