Oct. 20, 2002

STOCKTON, Calif. - Senior Michael Bruggemann and junior Erich Chen captured the double championship at the Tiger Fall Classic this afternoon. Sophomore Taylor Bedilion took home the consolation singles title in the event, hosted this weekend by University of the Pacific at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.

Down two games, Bruggemann and Chen rallied with eight straight game victories for the Broncos' first doubles title at a fall tournament.

"They played outstanding," head coach George Husack said of the winning tandem. "They set themselves up nicely heading into our regional next weekend. We'll be looking for another good performance by them."

Bedilion earned the singles consolation title over teammate Federico Mattioli, after the junior had to retire due to injury. Mattioli and teammate Rick Ruso had to default their doubles consolation quarterfinal match as well.

In another quarterfinal match in doubles, Bedilion and Francisco Zepponi won their quarterfinal and semifinal matches, but fell 9-8-8-6 in the tiebreak-to a duo from San Franciscoin the final.

The Broncos return to action next weekend when they participate in the OMNI Hotels ITA Regional, hosted this year by Saint Mary's in Moraga. The tournament begins Saturday, Oct. 26 and runs through Oct. 29.
