SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's tennis team announced the signing of 6-1 right-hander Bobby Rasmussen to a national letter of intent, head coach George Husack announced during the early signing period that began Wednesday.

Rasmussen will join the Bronco program next fall and is the first of four players expected to sign. The early signing period began Wednesday and runs through Wednesday, Nov. 20. The spring letter of intent signing period for tennis is April 16 through August 1. "Bobby is a solid addition to our program," Husack said. "He is very strong off both wings and can use his big serve to set up points in his favor. His aggressive game will allow him to adapt quickly to our style of play and contribute to a successful collegiate career."

A native of Littleton, Colo., and currently a senior at Regis Jesuit High School, Rasmussen is one of the top players from the Intermountain Section. He was a finalist in the recent Colorado State High School Championships and was a state champion during his sophomore and junior seasons. Aside from his tennis talents, Rasmussen has received numerous awards for outstanding leadership and exceptional academic achievement, as well as participated in a number of community service projects.

"Bobby is going to be an immediate contributor to our team and Santa Clara University," Husack added. "We are fortunate to gain a student-athlete of Bobby's caliber, as his leadership and tennis skills speak volumes."

Santa Clara will open the 2003 season on January 18, when the team hosts four-time Division III National Champion UC Santa Cruz at the SCU Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 10 a.m.
