Fischer Earns Singles National Ranking

March 9, 2004

SKILLMAN, N.J. - Santa Clara University men's tennis senior Gernot Fischer is ranked 81st in singles play, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released today.

The listing is a personal best for the Bronco senior, who was ranked 91st as a sophomore while competing at Tennessee Tech. Fischer transferred to the mission campus last summer and has led the Broncos in singles and doubles. He has a team-leading 20 wins on the season, including five over ranked opponents, and has earned victories in six of his last seven outings.

Additionally, Fischer's honor marks the highest individual national singles ranking for a Bronco. In 2002, then-freshman Chris Lam peaked at No. 104.

The Broncos (5-8) return home for a midweek West Coast Conference match, hosting San Francisco tomorrow at 2 p.m. Santa Clara will then break for winter quarter finals and return on Sunday, March 21, hosting U.S. Air Force at 11 a.m. Both matches will take place at the Degheri Tennis Center.
