Fischer Moves Up in Singles National Ranking

March 23, 2004

SKILLMAN, N.J. - Santa Clara University men's tennis senior Gernot Fischer improved 27 spots in today's Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, and is now ranked 54th nationally.

The listing is a personal best for the Bronco senior, who was ranked 81st in the March 9 listing and 91st as a sophomore while competing at Tennessee Tech. Fischer transferred to the mission campus last summer and has led the Broncos in singles and doubles. He has a team-leading 21 wins on the season, including five over ranked opponents, and has earned victories in seven of his last nine outings.

Additionally, Fischer's honor marks the highest individual national singles ranking for a Bronco.

The Broncos (7-8) are on the road for three matches during the school's spring break. Santa Clara will take on three nationally-ranked opponents, beginning with No. 72 UC Santa Barbara this afternoon. On Thursday, the Broncos will battle 26th-ranked Arizona State and then return to California for a Saturday match at No. 61 San Diego State.
