SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's tennis team will host the 2004 West Coast Conference Championship this weekend at the Degheri Tennis Center. The Broncos open tournament play on Friday, when they take on Saint Mary's at 3 p.m.

Tournament action continues through Sunday, and the winner will receive an automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA Championships, hosted on campus sites beginning May 14-16. Fans can follow WCC play online by Clicking Here.

"We've worked very hard this season on giving ourselves the opportunity to win matches," head coach George Husack said. "Our record may not reflect this fact at first glance, however, we have been right there all year long. It takes a lot of pride to battle through the narrow losses and believe that the hard work will pay off. The experience is invaluable.

"I know we're ready for a great weekend of tennis, and what could be better than enjoying the battle at home. We feel good about our chances and will continue to give ourselves the best shot at getting the job done."

The WCC has sponsored a men's tennis championship since 1958. Pepperdine enters the weekend ranked 25th nationally, having won the last 13 league crowns, and 34 overall. The Waves are the league's No. 1 season and will play Gonzaga at 9 a.m. San Diego is ranked 40th nationally, and have placed second at this event 13 times in the last 14 years. The Toreros are the tournament's second seed and will face Portland at 1 p.m. The Broncos' (10-12) are the tournament's third seed. Fourth-seeded Loyola Marymount will take on the No. 5 seed San Francisco at 11 a.m.
