Broncos Return To Campus...
The 7th annual Bronco Pro-Am Invitational was held on March 20 at the Degheri Tennis Center. This year's round-robin doubles event featured a 45-player draw made up of current and former Bronco players, as well as many Bronco tennis supporters. "This was a wonderful way to kick off our Spring Break," head coach George Husack commented. "Finals week can be a bit mentally draining for the team and this event is a great pick-me-up. The players had the opportunity to add to their Bronco Tennis experience in a fun and relaxed atmosphere while enjoying friendly competition." Former Bronco tennis player Jimmy Miller '86 teamed with current freshman Bobby Rasmussen '07 to capture the Invitational championship. The Bronco duo defeated Desa Bubnovich and former head coach Sean Burns in the final. Close to 100 people joined the men's program to play, volunteer or support the event in some fashion. A significant percent consisted of alumni that represented seven decades of Santa Clara Broncos. The invitational was made up of five rounds of doubles matches, with the top point-getters advancing to the semifinal and final rounds. Total proceeds in excess of $4,500 went directly towards the Broncos' recent Spring Break trip to Santa Barbara, Phoenix and San Diego. "We are very grateful for the tremendous support we received and look forward to increasing our participation and expanding the search for more Broncos in the near future," Husack added. "This is such an important event for our program, university and community." A Pro-Am photo gallery and Q&A feature can be found online at www.SantaClaraBroncos.com.
