Men's Tennis Closes Play at Tiger Fall Classic

Sept. 26, 2004

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Santa Clara University men's tennis program concluded action at the Tiger Fall Classic, hosted by the University of the Pacific at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. The Broncos swept both doubles flights with all-SCU final matches, while freshman A.J. Kerin won his singles match in Flight C.

Kerin defeated Will McAllister of Sacramento State 7-5, 6-1, and then moved on to doubles play, where he paired with fellow freshman Tyler Wilson to win two matches. They defeated a pair from Pacific in the semis and topped teammates Ben Hidalgo and Bobby Rasmussen 8-6 in the final.

Jan Macek and Taylor Bedilion defeated teammates Eric Kochanski and Francisco Zepponi 8-6 in Flight A's championship match.

"We had great performances on the courts today," head coach George Husack said. "We advanced all five doubles teams to the semifinals and swept both flights. We watched the United States play doubles last night in the Davis Cup... I'm not sure if that inspired us today, but it's the best doubles I've seen us play in a long time. We have a lot of good to take away from this tournament."

Next week, Macek and Bedilion will attempt to qualify for the ITA All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. The entire squad will reunite at the SCU Bronco Classic, October 8-10 at the Degheri Tennis Center.
