Santa Clara Returns Home to Face San Francisco

Feb. 13, 2006

Santa Clara, Calif. - After dropping two matches to ranked teams on the road last week, the Santa Clara men's tennis team is relieved to return home to the Degheri Tennis Center this Wednhesday for a key West Coast Conference match-up with San Francisco. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.

While losses to No. 54 Utah and No. 74 Brigham Young were disheartening to his team, head coach George Husack believes that his group of players will bounce back stronger than ever, especially with a home match in sight. The Broncos are currently 4-0 at the Degheri Tennis Center and will look to make it five straight against the Dons.

"I don't think we were necessarily outmatched [against Brigham Young and Utah], but we certainly need to pick up the tempo and impose our game much than we have."

San Francisco enters Wednesday's showdown with Santa Clara sporting an overall record of 2-3. Leading the way for the Dons will be seniors Rafael Corazza and Fernando Rodriguez and junior Matthew Berry, along with newcomers Korbinian Kramer and Thong Tu. Peter Bartlett is in this head coach of the San Francisco program.

"We have had ourselves quite a rivalry with USF over the past several years. Their program has strengthened tremendously during this time period and this year's squad is deep and strong," said Husack about his upcoming opponent. "The match will be an important one for both teams being a conference match and the result having an influence on the WCC tournament seedings. I anticipate Wednesday's contest to be tight and intense."
