BEND, Ore. - Incoming freshman Tommy Hicks recently captured the men's open championship at the 17th annual Collier Cup in Bend, Ore. A native of Portland, Ore., Hicks won four rounds of singles in impressive fashion en route to the tournament title.

After opening the event with a first-ound victory over Timothy Chang of the University of Portland, Hicks defeated Santa Clara tennis graduate Adam Gagnon '96 in straight sets. He then cruised through the semifinals after disposing Tim Layman, the tournament's top seed, 6-3, 6-0.
