Oct. 5, 2005

Santa Clara, Calif. - The Second Annual Bronco Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara University, will welcome some of the best talent on the West Coast this weekend. Starting on Friday, October 7, over 80 participants from 12 universities will converge on the mission campus to compete in three 32-player singles draws (A, B, and C flights) and two 16-team double draws (A and B). The three-day invitational will be held at two sites: the Degheri Tennis Center on the campus of Santa Clara University and the Santa Clara Golf & Tennis Club. Each day will start off with the doubles matches at 9 a.m., followed by the singles contests.

"We are thrilled to host this event again and secure such a strong field this year," said head coach George Husack. "There will be a lot of matches played all weekend which is what the coaches want for their players during the fall season."

Among the participating schools include NCAA powerhouses Stanford and California, in addition to Nevada, Oregon, Portland, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Diego State, UC Davis, UC San Diego, and UC Santa Barbara. Of the 12 teams in the tournament, six were nationally ranked last year by the ITA (highest 2005 ranking in parentheses): Stanford (7), California (22), San Diego State (35), Oregon (48), UC Santa Barbara (66), and Portland (70).
