Santa Clara, Calif. - Two doubles teams will represent Santa Clara University on the third day of competition of the Men's Wilson/ITA Regional Tennis Championships. In the Round of 32 this morning, the pair of Jan Macek and Bobby Rasmussen won easily to move on to the Round of 16. Joining the duo will be the team of Kevin McQuaid and Blane Shields, who also won their match today.
In singles action, the Broncos did not fare as well, as all three participants fell to their opponents. Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong, Tommy Hicks, and Kevin McQuaid all fell in straight sets in the Round of 32. In the consolation draw, Santa Clara players were success, as Macek, seeded No. 9 in the tournament, and Shields won two matches, while Chris Iwamura won his match-up. Brian Brogan won one match, but dropped his second of the day, while Rasmussen lost his only consolation match.
Action begins tomorrow with the doubles Round of 16 beginning at 9 a.m.
