Santa Clara, Calif. - On the third day of action at the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships, both Santa Clara participants in the doubles main draw fell to their respective opponents in the Round of 16. Jan Macek and Bobby Rasmussen dropped an 8-4 decision to Charles Irie and Sergui Modoc of Fresno State, while the tandem of Kevin McQuaid and Blane Shields lost 8-3 to Lennart Maack and Daniel Sebescen of California. Although Bronco advanced past the Round of 16 in either the main draw of singles or doubles, head coach George Husack was optimistic about his team's performance and believes that his team benefited from the strong competition this weekend.
"Overall I am very pleased with Santa Clara's performance this weekend," said Husack. "There are a few things that I'd like to improve upon before we head into the dual season, but for the most part, I like what the guys have shown me so thus far."
In the singles consolation draw, McQuaid was the lone winner, winning his match in straight sets over Irie. Teammates A.J. Kerin, Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong, and Chris Iwamura all lost their contests in straight sets.
Santa Clara returns to action in two weeks when the team travels to Las Vegas to partake in the UNLV Rebel Classic, from November 4-6.
