Lamble Drops Three-Set Match, Wraps up Play at the All-American Championship

TULSA, Okla. -  After dropping his opening round match to the nation's No. 10-ranked player earlier this week, Santa Clara University's John Lamble -  currently ranked No. 40 in the country - lost his consolation matchup to another top-ranked player at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's prestigious All-American Championship.

Despite falling to University of Georgia All-American and 10-ranked Ku Singh, Lamble had the opportunity to continue play in Tulsa via the consolation bracket. Paired against No. 65 Enej Bonin of Denver University, Lamble put up a three-set fight, but ultimately fell. He lost the first set 7-5, but surged back to edge Bonin 6-4 in the second set. However, in the end, Bonin prevailed 6-2 in set three to pick up the victory.

Lamble - a product of nearby Saratoga, Calif. - was the fist Santa Clara player to ever receive a Main Draw bid to the All-American Championship, which hosts some of the top singles players in the country.

The Bronco junior became the highest-ranked player in a final Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) poll in Santa Clara school history. Lamble came in at No. 77 last year, and in addition, was the highest-ranked player in a preseason ITA poll, beginning this season at No. 40.

He was a Second Team All-West Coast Conference honoree in both singles and doubles during his sophomore season. At his current pace, with two full seasons left, Lamble is on track to break Santa Clara's career singles victory record currently held by Francisco Zepponi '04.
