Bronco Men's Tennis Has Successful First Day at ITA Regional

Moraga, Calif. - On the first day at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals, the Santa Clara men's tennis squad got off to a hot start, posting a 7-1 record at the Moraga Country Club. 

After receiving a bye in the round of 128, No. 40 John Lamble, who received the No. 3 seed in the tournament, defeated San Francisco's Jonathan Knowlman to reach the Round of 32.

Seventh-seeded Ilya Osintsev, the nation's No. 103 player, received a first-round bye. He then won his match to advance to the Round of 32 against Aaron Clissold of Oregon.

In just his second tournament as a member of the Santa Clara tennis team, Matt Kecki, picked up two wins on the first day of the tournament. In the first round, Kecki ousted Jeff Mullen of Oregon 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(3). Kecki picked up his second victory of the day, winning in three sets against Max Manthou of Washnington.

Tom Pham picked up his fourth and fifth victory of the early season with wins in the Round of 128 and 64, respectively. In his first match, Pham ousted Alex Ferrero of Portland 6-3, 6-3. In his second match, he picked up another win. He defeated Nils Skaa of San Francisco.

Eugene Muchynski started the tournament off with a win over Daniel Alameh in the Round of 128. However, Muchynski met the tournament's No. 10 seed, Alex Rovello of Oregon in the Round of 64. Muchynski would fall 6-1, 6-1 to Rovello.

The tournament resumes Saturday beginning with the Round of 32. Additionally, doubles play begins tomorrow.
