Broncos Post 3-0 Doubles Record, Advance Two to Round of 16 on Day 2 of ITA Regional

MORAGA, Calif. -  The Santa Clara men's tennis squad continued its run on the second day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional. Day 2 was highlighted by Santa Clara advancing two players into the Round of 16 and a 3-0 record in doubles.

In singles, the Broncos tallied a 2-2 record advancing two players to the Round of 16. 

The nation's No. 40 player, John Lamble, the No. 3 seeded player at the tournament, continued his strong play with a two-set victory over Stanford's Daniel Ho in the Round of the 32. Sunday Lamble will battle Joakim Norstrom from Saint Mary's in the Round of 16.

The Broncos' other seeded player, Ilya Osintsev (pictured) edged Jeff Hawke of Washington in the Round of 32. After the dropping the first set 3-6, Osintsev battled back to win the next two 6-3, 6-4. The Santa Clara sophomore, who ranked No. 103 by the ITA, will begin Day 3 with a match against Cal's Campbell Johnson, the No. 16 seed.

The two other Broncos remaining, Matt Kecki and Tom Pham, both lost on in their second day of singles play. Kecki dropped his match to No. 6 seeded Thai Tu of San Francisco. Pham fell to a fellow West Coast Conference player, Alvaro Nazal of Gonzaga.

In doubles on Saturday, Santa Clara went 3-0 on the day. In the opening round, Kecki and Pham picked up a decisive victory over Anthony Tsodikov and Robert Stinemann, downing the Stanford tandem 8-3. 

In the Round of 32, both Santa Clara duos notched wins. Osintsev and Lamble, who were awarded the No. 2 seed, picked up a 8-5 victory over Jeremy Quiroz and Sai Kartik of Fresno State.

Pham and Kecki tallied their second win of the day with a impressive win over the No. 9 seeded tandem. Kecki and Pham downed Alex Ferrero and Michael Hukwo of Portland.
