John Lamble Falls in ITA Indoor Championship in Men's Tennis

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Santa Clara's first player in program history to be invited to the prestigious Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor Championship, No. 40 John Lamble fell in the first round of the tournament.

In his first match of the tournament, Lamble battled No. 50 Leandro Toledo from the University of Minnesota. After Toledo picked up the first set, 6-4, Lamble was unable to make a comeback and lost in two sets. He dropped to 5-4 during the fall season. However, all four of his losses have come to players ranked in the top-65, including two in the top-10.

Lamble - a junior from Saratoga, Calif. - has marked program firsts throughout the fall. He became the first Santa Clara player to be invited to the ITA All-American Championships and the ITA Indoor Championships. Additionally, his national ranking of No. 40 was a program-high to begin a season. Earlier this month, Lamble made the finals at the ITA Regional tournament by winning five consecutive matches before falling to No. 16 Ben McLachlan of Cal.

Lamble will play in the consolation bracket starting Friday. Check back later for Lamble's results at the ITA Indoor Championships.
