No. 36 Bronco Men's Tennis Picked Third in WCC Preseason Poll; Lamble on All-WCC Team

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The results of the 2013 WCC Men's Tennis Preseason Poll and the 2013 WCC Men's Tennis Preseason All-Conference Team were announced Wednesday by the West Coast Conference.

Santa Clara was ranked third in the coaches WCC preseason poll, tallying 47 points. The Broncos are off to a 3-1 start with wins over UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz on opening-day, plus a strong 4-1 victory over No. 38 Boise State in the ITA Kick-Off weekend last weekend. Santa Clara's lone defeat is to No. 20 Michigan by a score of 4-1.

The Broncos' John Lamble was voted to the preseason All-WCC Team, along with only five other players in the conference. Lamble is ranked No. 65 in the country, a new high for the men's tennis program.

The junior from Saratoga, Calif. pulled off a big win with an upset 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 28 Andrew Bettles last weekend, helping SCU clinch the 4-1 final over Boise State. Lamble has also teamed with Ilya Osintsev at the top doubles position.

The Pepperdine Waves, ranked No. 7 in the nation, received eight of nine (8 of 9) first place votes and led with 64 total points. Behind top-ranked Pepperdine was San Diego, who tallied 57 points and one first-place vote.

The No. 36 Santa Clara men's tennis team looks to build on its early-season success with two matches at the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash this weekend.

Santa Clara and the host No. 22 Huskies will play on Fri., Feb. 1 at 5pm at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. On Sat., Feb. 2 at 2pm the SCU Broncos and No. 38 Boise State Broncos will face off in a rematch from the ITA Kick-Off weekend.
