SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 56 Bronco men's tennis team gave it their all against No. 42 University of San Diego on Sunday, but came away empty-handed in another tough road match, this time by a 6-1 final. The Broncos will square off against University of San Francisco on Saturday, April 13 in their return to the Mission Campus. The match is scheduled for 11 am at the Degheri Tennis Center.
Santa Clara is 13-9 overall and 1-4 in WCC matches. The Broncos are 10-3 on their home courts, 1-5 on the road and 2-1 in neutral contests. USD improved to 14-7 overall including 4-1 in WCC play.
San Diego took two of three doubles matches, marking the fifth straight time Santa Clara's opponent has won the doubles point. The Toreros rode the momentum into singles, where they won five of six matchups.
The Broncos' victory came at No. 1 singles, where John Lamble was a straight-set winner. Lamble, who is ranked No. 63 in the country, bested Thibaut Visy 6-4, 6-4 in a strong effort. The junior from Saratoga improved to 18-12 on the season and is second on the team in wins.
Santa Clara dropped its third straight match while USD picked up its third win in a row. The Broncos fell to No. 43 San Diego State 7-0 on Friday and to then-No. 6 Pepperdine 4-2 on Saturday, March 30th. Santa Clara will look to win its remaining three WCC matches before traveling back to San Diego for the WCC Tournament April 25-27.
