SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Bronco men's tennis player John Lamble, who played No. 1 singles for the Santa Clara team, was named First-Team All-West Coast Conference for the 2013 season. Tom Pham and Matt Kecki were both named All-WCC Honorable Mention in Singles. Kecki and Pham, and Lamble and Ilya Ostintsev were also named All-WCC Honorable Mention in Doubles.
Lamble, ranked No. 83 in the country, turned in a strong junior campaign as the leader of the Bronco squad. Lamble racked up a 20-14 record overall and a 15-9 mark in dual matches. He was second on the team in singles wins and also played No. 1 doubles the majority of the season.
"John had a very productive year playing No. 1 for the first time all year," said Bronco head coach Derek Mills. "We are looking for him to use the experience from this year to propel him to have a great senior year."
The Saratoga, Calif. native appeared at No. 2 and received Second-Team All-WCC accolades in 2012, and rose to the challenge of facing the opposing teams' best player in 2013. His efforts kept the team strong despite missing several starters for the bulk of March, and he earned WCC Player of the Month honors as a result. Lamble went 7-2 overall in singles during March including a six match winning streak to kick off the month, and the Broncos rallied in the rankings, moving up to No. 56 in the April 2 edition.
Lamble's highlights also included reeling off a nine match winning streak between Feb. 16 and March 16 where he dropped only two sets. During the streak, he picked up wins over ranked teams including UC Santa Barbara, Pacific and Purdue. The righty also upset No. 36 Andrew Bettles on Jan. 26 in Santa Clara's win over Boise State in the ITA Kick-Off weekend.
Pham finished the season 25-9, including a four match winning streak to end the season. Pham, the most prolific tennis player in Santa Clara history, improved his program wins record to 89 and finished his Bronco career on fire, capturing every singles and doubles match over his final five contests.
In his final doubles match against USF in the WCC Tournament, Pham notched his 63rd career doubles win, tying him for the all-time program record. Pham finished his Bronco doubles career with a 63-24 record, tying him with Erich Chen (2000-2004) for No. 1 in program history.
Kecki, who was dependable throughout the season for Santa Clara finished the season with a 15-8 record. He combined with Pham for six straight doubles victories and wins in eight of nine matches to conclude the campaign.
Osintsev combined with Lamble to form a formidable duo in the top spot. The pair finished the season with four straight wins and seven in eight matches. Lamble and Osintsev played a huge part in helping Santa Clara win five consecutive doubles points to conclude the season. The tandem topped USF's No. 1 doubles team that received First-Team All-WCC Doubles honors twice on the season.
