Lamble Set To Compete In All-American Championship

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara senior John Lamble is set to play in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-American Championship in Tulsa, Okla. alongside the nation's top players next week.

Lamble will compete in the qualifying round beginning Mon., Sept. 30 as he looks to return to the main draw. Following the qualifying matches, a field of 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams will compete in the main draw on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Last fall, Lamble was No. 40 in the preseason rankings which earned him a spot in the main draw. It was the highest preseason ranking in program history and the first time a Bronco had appeared in the main draw of the All-American Championship.

Facing steep competition, Lamble dropped his first-round match to University of Georgia All-American and 10-ranked Ku Singh, and fell in a three-set battle against No. 65 Enej Bonin of Denver University.

In the 2013 preseason rankings, Lamble is ranked No. 64 after anchoring the Broncos' lineup at No. 1 singles and doubles. This past summer, Lamble has been training vigorously to lead the Broncos to another successful season.

The 6-0 righty traveled to the Midwest and played in four Futures tournaments, which are low-level professional tournaments. He also spent two weeks in Spain training five hours per day. Read more about Lamble's summer and Bronco tennis career here.

Lamble provided stability in the top spots throughout the entire 2013 season. He finished the season ranked No. 89 nationally by the ITA, was named First-Team All-WCC and received WCC Player of the Month honors for March.

The Saratoga, Calif. native amassed a 20-14 overall record which placed him second on the team in wins and he went 15-9 in dual matches.

In doubles, Lamble was All-WCC honorable mention with Ilya Osintsev. The duo went 10-6 playing No. 1 for the Broncos, and Lamble finished 14-9 overall including several matches at No. 2.
