Osintsev of No. 53 Men's Tennis Named WCC Singles Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced its men's tennis weekly honors on Wednesday, and No. 53 Santa Clara's Ilya Osintsev was named the WCC Singles Player of the Week. It was the second time this season that Osintsev has received the award. It was also the third time in four weeks that Santa Clara has earned a Player of the Week honor.

Osintsev, the No. 2 singles player for the Broncos, turned in another dominating performance in Santa Clara's 4-3 win versus New Mexico State on Sunday. Osintsev started off with an impressive 6-1 first set win and defeated Germain Degardin 6-0 in a commanding second set. Osintsev played a crucial role in lifting the Broncos to their 10th win of the season (10-2 overall) and ninth win in their past 10 matches.

Osintsev has not lost a dual match this season. The junior is a perfect 9-0, all in the No. 2 singles spot. Including the fall season, he is 13-2 overall. Osintsev's outstanding play has helped the Broncos to their best start in over a decade.

The lefty, who won WCC Freshman of the Year as a rookie and received WCC Singles Player of the Week in February, is helping lead Santa Clara's efforts to go deep in the WCC Tournament and clinch an NCAA Tournament berth.

In doubles, Osintsev and partner John Lamble are on an unbelievable tear. The duo has a spotless 10-0 record in dual matches and has won 15 consecutive dual matches dating back to last season.

With their most recent win over New Mexico State, they notched their 32nd career victory, moving them into second place for most victories by one tandem in Santa Clara history. Osintsev and Lamble were named WCC Doubles Team of the Week on March 4.
