SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The No. 67 men's tennis team split a pair of WCC matches this weekend, defeating BYU handily in a 6-1 final on Saturday and falling to USD, 4-0, on Friday. In the BYU match, John Lamble picked up his 16th victory of the season and his 76th career win, moving him into second place for all-time singles wins.

In their next match, the Broncos will host No. 27 University of Oregon on Wed., Apr. 9 at 3pm.

Santa Clara is 12-5 and 3-3 in the WCC. The team is 9-2 at home, 2-3 on the road and 1-0 at neutral sites.

Against BYU on Saturday, Santa Clara got back to its winning ways with a terrific team effort. The Broncos were firing on all cylinders up and down the lineup, and sent BYU packing with a resounding victory.

In doubles, Lamble and Ilya Osintsev were 8-5 winners at No. 1. The duo has been a model of consistency this season with a 12-1 record, all in the top position.

The righty-lefty tandem has won 18 of 20 matches including fall play, and Lamble and Osintsev are 17-1 in their last 18 dual matches dating back to the end of last season. They have 34 total victories across their Santa Clara doubles career together, which is the second-most victories by one team in program history.

BYU grabbed the No. 2 match, 8-2, and the doubles point came down to the No. 3 spot. Sam Bertram and Michael Tjuatjadarma came through in the deciding contest with a solid 8-4 victory, clinching the Broncos' doubles win and improving their record to 2-0.

With one point on the board, Santa Clara went to work in singles. Lamble demolished his opponent, who was ranked No. 122 in the country, in a 6-1, 6-1 drubbing. The senior is 9-1 during the regular season and 16-4 including the fall. For his career, the Saratoga, Calif. native is an exceptional 76-35 overall, and with Saturday's win he broke a tie with Francisco Zepponi for second-most wins in program history.

Osintsev picked up a solid 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2. The lefty had his perfect record snapped against San Diego, but rebounded against BYU for his 10th win of the season. His overall record is 13-2 and he is 10-1 in dual matches.

Ashot Khacharyan went to three sets but pulled out the win, triumphing 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (4) for his 10th dual victory of the season (12-5 overall). Mikheil Khmiadashvili made quick work of his opponent at No. 4, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 final. It marked Khmiadashvili's 10th win of the season as well.

Sam Bertram took down his opponent in a hard-fought match. The Aussie came out on top in a 7-5, 7-6 (10) battle for his 7th dual match win and 10th overall victory. At No. 6, Michael Tjuatjadarma fell 6-2, 6-2.

On Friday, the Toreros defeated the Broncos 4-0 in a rain-delayed match. The teams started off with singles due to the weather, and San Diego struck first with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the fifth position. The rest of the matches were tightly contested, but the Toreros were able to pick up No. 2 singles in three sets and No. 4 and No. 6 singles in close two-set finals.
