Ilya Osintsev of No. 60 Men's Tennis Named WCC Singles Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced its men's tennis weekly honors on Wednesday, and No. 60 Santa Clara's Ilya Osintsev was named the WCC Singles Player of the Week. It was the third time this season that Osintsev has received the award and he becomes the first player to earn the honor three times in 2014.

Osintsev, the No. 2 singles player for the No. 60 Santa Clara Broncos, is an exceptional 12-1 during the regular season and 15-3 including the fall. The junior picked up one of the Broncos' biggest individual wins this season in the team's 4-2 upset of No. 39 Oregon on Wednesday.

Osintsev defeated Robin Cambier, ranked No. 59 in the country, in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6. Cambier had recently defeated No. 1 USC's Ray Sarmiento, ranked third in the country. The upset win was the biggest victory of the season for the Broncos and one of the biggest wins in Santa Clara tennis history.

Osintsev, who is from Novosibirsk, Russia, was excellent against Portland on Sunday as well. The lefty beat Reid Delaubenfels 6-4, 7-5 for his third straight win.

In doubles, Osintsev and partner John Lamble are having one of the finest seasons in program history. The duo dominated Kevin Farin  and Robin Cambier, 8-2, and helped topple No. 39 Oregon in one of the best wins the program has ever had.

The duo has a 13-1 dual match record is 18-1 in its last 19 dual matches dating back to last season. Their 35 total victories are the second-most by one team in Bronco men's tennis history.
