No. 60 Men's Tennis Beats Saint Mary’s 4-0; Hosts Pacific on Senior Day Tomorrow

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The No. 60 SCU men's tennis team kicked off Alumni Weekend by earning a convincing win on Friday, defeating Saint Mary's 4-0 at the Degheri Tennis Center.

On Saturday, the Broncos will take on University of the Pacific at 1pm on Senior Day. In addition to honoring the Bronco seniors in between singles and doubles, the Alumni BBQ will be held during the match on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, the Alumni Match will be held from 10am until 12pm. Please RSVP for the BBQ and Alumni Match by emailing head coach Derek Mills at dmills@scu.edu.

Santa Clara is now 14-6 overall and 4-4 in the WCC. The team is 11-2 at home, 2-4 on the road and 1-0 at neutral sites.

The Broncos rode strong performances from their No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams to win the doubles point and gain an early advantage. In the third spot, Sam Bertram and Michael Tjuatjadarma got the Broncos started with an 8-3 victory. The duo is now 3-2 on the campaign.

At No. 2, Ashot Khacharyan and Mikheil Khmiadashvili won 8-5 to clinch the doubles point. The duo evened up its record at 3-3 on the season.

The No. 1 tandem of John Lamble and Ilya Osintsev was dealt a rare defeat, falling to its opponents 8-4. The loss snapped the pair's three match winning streak and was only its second defeat of the dual match season (13-2).

In singles, the Broncos picked up wins at No. 1, 4, and 6 to finish off the match. In the top spot, Lamble dominated 6-1, 6-2. The senior improved his dual match record to an outstanding 12-1 and he is 19-4 on the year. For his career, the righty has a 79-35 overall record and he has the second-most wins in program history.

Khmiadashvili picked up another Bronco win in a 7-5, 6-4 final at No. 4. The lefty from Tbilisi, Georgia earned the 12th victory of his solid freshman year, all in dual matches.

In the sixth spot, Bertram wrapped up the contest with a three-set victory. Bertram won the first set 6-3 but St. Mary's evened it up with a 6-3 second set of its own. The Australian transfer found his game in the third set, blowing through his opponent 6-1. Bertram upped his overall season record to 11-8.

With the contest decided, the matches for Osintsev, Khacharyan, and Tjuatjadarma were halted.
